Recently in the pages of The Classical Quarterly Mathias Hanses convincingly demonstrated the existence of a fourth occurrence of the programmatic adjective λεπτός in Aratus, Phaen. 783–7. This new example occurs in the form of a diagonal acrostic alongside the known ‘gamma-acrostic’ and the occurrence of the same form of the adjective in line 784. O presente trabalho tem por objetivo efetuar estudo sobre a evolução histórica do periódico, enquanto mecanismo estruturado e formal de comunicação e disseminação do conhecimento científico, evidenciando transformações por que passou e resistências ao longo de sua trajetória evolutiva até tornar-se um dos instrumentos da atualidade mais utilizados na difusão do conhecimento acadêmico-científico. O estudo segue pressupostos da pesquisa exploratória fazendo uso de técnicas da investigação teórica, documental e empírica. Discorre sobre o surgimento dos periódicos científicos, demonstrando sua evolução nos (...) mais de quatro séculos de sua existência Reconstitui a trajetória histórica de um periódico científico vinculado à área da educação, a partir do qual traça algumas barreiras e desafios a serem enfrentados para o seu aperfeiçoamento no contexto contemporâneo, considerando principalmente a aceleração das inovações tecnológicas, a pulverização de fontes de informação disponibilizadas à sociedade em geral via redes online e as questões políticas, econômicas e sociais implicadas na produção e socialização dos conhecimentos produzidos pela humanidade. Realça o avanço das tecnologias da informação e a competitividade internacional como barreiras a serem vencidas, e a inclusão de novas funções como um dos desafios à sobrevivência dos periódicos científicos no contexto contemporâneo. Em termos conclusivos, destaca a necessidade de aperfeiçoamento constante no controle e incremento de seus fluxos, que inclui formas de recepção, avaliação, revisão, publicização e acesso aos conhecimentos gerados. Destaca, ainda, a necessidade de superação da soberba e prepotência por parte de alguns governantes, especialmente de países centrais, e a consequente compreensão de que o conhecimento deve ser meio para a humanidade viver em harmonia com o planeta e não razão de sofrimento ou causa de mazelas das populações mais vulneráveis. This paper is about “othering” in cyberspace. The roots of othering of non-Muslims in Saudi Arabia are seen in the perception of umma as special and superior, therefore automatically categorising “non-believers” as “other”. The in-group and out-group demarcation strategies and consequent marginalisation are considered from both perspectives as bilateral and mutually exclusive. The focus is placed on othering e-space, where marginalised voices can be heard via virtual communication. The effects of virtual reality on real life interaction and resulting involvement in (...) controversial and taboo topics are also discussed. Additionally, some cases of demarginalisation or “de-othering” are described in terms of cyber-verbal expression and exchange of opinions. (shrink)

The main goal of this article is to show diverse approaches in political culture and some of the problems arising from this, as well as to point out the differences between the two perspectives – theories of political science and political philosophy. The author starts by analysing the classic definition of political culture developed by Gabriel Almond and presents the critique of this definition. He also describes a new approach proposed by researchers, such as Władysław Markiewicz, Andrzej W. Jabłoński and (...) Zbigniew Blok. The main problem with Almond’s concept – as the political scientists indicate – is that it is of little relevance for empirical studies. The researchers try to make this concept more useful as a research tool for examining political reality. On the other hand, Cezary Kościelniak and Janusz Wiśniewski attempt to define political culture in political philosophy’s terms. Their intention is to make this concept work as a counterfactual conceptualization of political reality. (shrink)

The paper is concerned with explaining some of the principal theoretical developments in elementary particle physics and discussing the associated methodological problems both in respect of heuristics and appraisal. Particular reference is made to relativistic quantum field theory, renormalization, Feynman diagram techniques, the analytic S-matrix and the Chew — Frautschi bootstrap.

Thomas Kuhn dengan konsep revolusi ilmiahnya memiliki karakteristik pemikiran dan model filsafat baru dalam hal sejarah lahirnya ilmu pengetahuan dan filsafat sains serta peranan sejarah ilmu pengetahuan dalam mengkonstruksi ataupun merekonstruksi munculnya ilmu pengetahuan baru. Bagi Thomas Kuhn sejarah ilmu pengetahuan merupakan starting point dalam mengkaji permasalahan fundamental dalam epistemologi keilmuan karena sains pada dasarnya selalu ditandai dengan kuatnya paradigma serta revolusi ilmiah setelahnya. Fase inilah yang diistilahkan Thomas Kuhn sebagai fase sejarah lahirnya ilmu pengetahuan baru, dimulai dengan normal science, (...) kemudian terjadi anomaly dan crisis, setelah itu barulah muncul revolusi ilmiah sebagai bentuk lahirnya ilmu pengetahuan baru. Pemikiran Thomas Kuhn tersebut dapat dikontekstualisasikan dengan pengembangan keilmuan Islam dengan tujuan membangun keterbukaan pemikiran keislaman terhadap anomali dan crisis serta munculnya revolusi dalam ilmu keislaman sehingga memotivasi munculnya paradigma baru di ranah keilmuan Islam. Berbagai pendekatan dalam studi Islam dapat digunakan seperti pendekatan normatif, historis, sosiologis, antropologis dan pendekatan lainnya dalam rangka membumikan Islam menjadi agama yang rahmatan lil alamin. Matthew's Christology is theocentric, presenting God's rule as manifest in the life of Jesus as an alternative to the sovereignty and power of this-worldly rulers. This Christology is expressed in the narrative mode. It can be appreciated and appropriated better in the context of the narratives in which contemporary interpreters are embedded.
